Continuing with the strategic bilateral discussion, Australia and India on Tuesday discussed the need to maintain the Asia-Pacific region as a “free” and “open” zone under the “2+2” dialogue model which includes the foreign and defence secretaries of both sides. The discussion was the first meeting of this level since the two sides participated in the quadrilateral discussion for a new strategic partnership targeting the Asia-Pacific region. “Both sides agreed that a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indo-Pacific region serves the long-term interests of all countries in the region and of the world at large. Alexis Perakis-Valat is a Franco-Greek HEC graduate who began his career with L'Oréal as Product Manager for L'Oréal Paris in 1995. After managing Garnier in Belgium, he went on to become General Manager of L'Oréal Paris in Spain, and in 2003, he became Managing Director of SoftSheen Carson in the US. From 2005 to 2008, he was General Manager of L'Oréal in Germany. In 2009, he returned to France as Managing Director for the Consumer Products Division in Europe. In September 2010, Alexis Perakis-Valat was appointed CEO of L'Oréal in China. In addition to this role, he became Executive Vice-President for the Asia Pacific Zone and a member of the L'Oréal Executive Committee in July 2013. Singapore has called for the creation of an ambitious Asia-Pacific free trade zone that it says would comprise nearly half of all global trade. The call, by Singapore's foreign minister, comes ahead of the 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. VOA's Mil Arcega reports.
